„To The Gallows“ ist das Debüt der australischen Thrasher DESECRATOR, die definitiv DEATH ANGEL, TESTAMENT und vocaltechnisch irgendwie ANTHRAX zu ihren Einflüssen zählen. Klingt für mich schon mal vielversprechend.

Und für ein Debüt liefern diese Thrasher ein wirklich gutes Werk ab. Auch wenn man die Truppe in die zweite Welle des Thrash Metals einordnen sollte, spielt ein gewisser Old-School Faktor dennoch eine große Rolle. Beim ersten Durchlauf wurde ich noch nicht so ganz gefesselt, aber nachdem ich der Band noch die Chance auf einen zweiten und dritten Durchlauf gab, hatte mich „To The Gallows“ dann. In anderen Worten, ich empfehle euch mehrmaliges Durchhören. Ich finde, dass die Band genug Potential hat, um zu einer gewissen Größe heranzuwachsen, speziell, wenn der Sänger seine Vocals noch etwas weiterentwickelt. Die Instrumentalparts sind schön groovy und melodisch und fügen sich perfekt in den typischen Thrash-Style ein. Meinen Lieblingstrack „Thrash Is A Verb“ werde ich auf jeden Fall zu meiner Thrash Playlist auf Spotify hinzufügen. Erbarmungslos und mit melodischen Parts bekommt der Track von mir beide Daumen hoch.

Mit „As I Die“ liefern DESECRATOR auch eine Ballade, die mich an eine softere Version von METALLICA erinnert. Nichts besonderes, aber schafft eine gewisse Variation auf dem Album.

Resümee: Nicht schlecht für ein Debütalbum. Ich bin positiv überrascht, was DESECRATOR abliefert und ich bin mir sicher, dass das nicht das letzte war, das wir von dieser Band in den nächsten Jahren zu hören bekommen. Thrash lebt und lodert in Bands wie DESECRATOR.

Spoiler-Alarm: Der letzte Track ist nur fünf Minuten lang und nicht zehn wie angegeben, denn nach ein paar Minuten Stille folgt ein Hidden Track.

„To The Gallows“ is the debut album from the Australian thrashers, which influences surely sound to be DEATH ANGEL, TESTAMENT and for the vocal part somewhat ANTHRAX. To me that is promising.

And for a debut album these thrashers deliver unto us a rather good piece of work. I still recon this to be of the second wave although it could be argued that the band plays old school thrash. The first listening didn’t really cut it for me, but after giving “To The Gallows” a second and a third chance, it has grown on me. In other words, I recommend you to give it more than just one listen. I believe this band has got potential to grow to a certain size, especially if the singer can develop his vocal even further. The instrumental parts are pretty groovy and somewhat melodic, in addition to the typical thrash style. Seems I have to add my favourite track “Thrash Is A Verb” to my thrash playlist on Spotify. Relentless, with melodic parts, it truly gets approval from me.

In “As I Die” DESECRATOR’s got their first ballad as well, reminding me of the softer version of Metallica. Nothing special, but could add to the variety of the album as a whole.

Judgment: Not bad for a debut album. I am positively surprised of what DESECRATOR delivers, and I am sure that we have not seen the last of this band in the years to come. Thrash lives on and thrives in bands like DESECRATOR.
