Nachdem BLOODROCUTED gerade am 12. Mai ihr neues Album „For The Dead Travel Fast“ veröffentlich haben, wollten wir wissen wie die Release Party war und was sich in der belgischen Metal Szene gerade so tut. Neben den Themen Vergewaltigung, religiöse Dogmen und dem Patriachat, durften wir eine Menge über ihre musikalischen Einflüsse erfahren und ob Sänger Daan wirklich bereits im Alter von 13 Metal gehört hat.


Hallo Jungs! Ich habe gelesen, dass Daan Bloodrocuted im Alter von 13 Jahren gegründet hat. Hast du in diesem Alter wirklich schon Metal gehört und welche Bands waren deine Einflüsse zu dieser Zeit?


Daan: Ja habe ich! Ich fing bereits im Alter von 11 Jahren an Metal zu hören. Ich startete mit klassichem NWoBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) und Bay Area Thrash Metal Bands, wie IRON MAIDEN, METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, DIAMOND HEAD, ANGEL WITCH, DEATH ANGEL und so weiter. Am meisten hat mich der Live Mitschnitt von METALLICAs „For Whom The Bell Tolls“ mit dem Bass Solo von Cliff Burton im Jahr 1986, beeinflusst.




Seit dem Album „Disaster Strikes Back“ mischt ihr Death und Thrash Metal, wessen Idee war das und wieso?


Als Jason in die Band einstieg, begannen wir automatisch Old School Death Metal Bands zu hören, da er ein großer Fan dieses Genres ist. Er schrieb einen Großteil der Musik auf dem Album „Disaster Strikes Back“, woraus die erdigen Riffs verbunden mit Thrash Metal entstanden.


Was sind heutzutage deine musikalischen Einflüsse?


Unsere musikalischen Einflüsse ziehen sich durch die gesamte Bandbreite an Metal. Ich bin ein großer Fan von Bay Area Thrash Metal, Black Metal und Florida Death Metal, wie TESTAMENT, EXODUS, DEATH, OBITUARY, MARDUK, WAITAN, usw. Jason hört vor allem Teutonic Thrash, schwedischen Death Metal und Post Metal, wie KREATOR, SODOM, ENTOMBED, AMENRA und OATHBRAKER. Dennis mag brutalen Death Metal, wie ABORTED oder SYLOSIS und Ben ist ein großer Fan von Deathcore und technischem Death Metal, wie ALL SHALL PERISH.


Wer gestaltete das Cover des Albums und welche Bedeutung hat es?


Das Bild wurde von einem Kunststudenten namens Pieter Geusens aus Belgien gestaltet. Wir wollten einem jungen Künstler die Chance geben ein gutes Cover zu gestalten, um seinen Ruf zu verbreiten. Mit dem Bild wollten wir eine Mischung aus den zwei Themen des Album kreieren, nämlich Horror und religiöse Beschränktheit. Der Priester und der Mann repräsentieren beides, die Angst vor Horrorgeschichten und das Gefühl des Gefangenseins durch dogmatische Religionen.


Was ist dein Lieblingssong am neuen Album „For The Dead Travel Fast”? Warum ist es dein Lieblingssong und wovon handelt er?


Okay, das ist eine ziemlich schwere Wahl! Ich würde sagen, es ist entweder „Perversion Of Purity“ oder „For The Dead Travel Fast“. Der Track „Perversion Of Purity“ hat alles was wir an einem guten Song mögen: straffe Riffs, grovvende Death Metal Parts, schöne Melodien und Solos und eine gute Dynamik. Lyrisch ist der Song sehr wichtig für mich, da es um Frauenrechte geht. Etwas spezifischer, es geht um eine Frau die vergewaltigt wird und der Täter wird von der patriachalen Gesellschaft geschützt. Auf der anderen Seite ist „For The Dead Travel Fast“ ein richtiger Ohrwurm mit einem extrem geilen Solo. Der Song erzählt eine der besten Horrorgeschichten, die jemals geschrieben wurden, nämlich Bram Stokers Dracula.




Wie war das Konzert zur Veröffentlichung des neuen Albums in Antwerpen?


Es war großartig! Wir hatten eine gute Eröffnung und sahen sowohl viele Freunde, als auch viele neue Fans in der Menge. Jeder fand die Show toll und es gab eine gute Atmosphäre in der Menge, es ging von Headbanging und Schreien bis zu Circle Pits und mehreren Walls of Death.


Ich denke die Metal Szene in Belgien ist gerade sehr aktiv, also wo sind die Metal Hot Spots und welche andere belgische Metal Band würdet ihr empfehlen?


Wir würden sagen, der beste Platz für Metal in Belgien ist Antwerpen. Es gibt viele gute Veranstaltungsorte und viele Metaler die zu jeder Show gehen und wissen wie man eine Party feiert, als gäbe es kein Morgen. Es gibt viele großartige Metal Bands in Belgien, ein paar der besseren sind EVIL INVADERS, CARNATION, MARGINAL, SPEED QUEEN, TURBOWARRIOR OF STEEL, aber ich denke es sind zu viele, um sie jetzt alle zu erwähnen.


Ihr tourt sehr viel, was war die aufregendste Show die ihr gespielt habt?


Ohne jeden Zweifel war es die im Turock in Essen, mit SUICIDAL ANGELS, DR. LIVING DEAD und ANGELUS APATRIDA. Die Show war ausverkauft und es war in einem der legendärsten Veranstaltungsorte in Europa, mit Bands wie KREATOR, die im Backstage Bereich herumgingen. Es war als würde ein Traum wahr werden!


Wer war die interessanteste Band oder Musiker die du je getroffen hast?


Ich denke es war als Jason und ich LG Petrov von ENTOMBED am Metal Fest in Antwerpen getroffen haben. Wir fingen einfach an Backstage mit ihm zu reden, was sich als wirklich lustige Unterhaltung entpuppte, da wir alle ziemlich betrunken waren. Es fing an bei "Wie waren deine Shows letztes Jahr?" und endete damit, dass er uns einige seiner betrunkenen Geschichten erzählte.


Was ist euer bester Live Song und warum?


Das ist eine schwere Wahl, aber ich denke es ist „Omnious“! Es ist ein extrem schneller Song, mit aggressiven Vocals und einem großartigen Breakdown am Ende des Songs. Während jeder Facette von „Omnious“ können wir den Genuss im Publikum sehen, angefangen bei der Trance des Intros, über die Circle Pits im mittleren Teil bis zum Headbangen am Schluss. Es ist ein echt zufriedenstellender Song für das Publikum.




Was sind eure Pläne für die Zukunft?


Nur das was jede Band gerne tut, haha! Touren, ein neues Album schreiben und auf Festivals spielen. Den konkretesten Plan den wir haben ist mit NARGAROTH, ABSU und HATE durch Europa zu touren. Außerdem gibt es noch einige coole Shows im Sommer, die an vielen verschiedenen Orten stattfinden.

Hey guys,
I have read that Daan founded Bloodrocuted at the age of 13. So did you already listen to Metal at that age and which bands influenced you at that time?


Yes I did! I started listening to metal at about the age of 11. I started out listening to the classic NWOBHM and bay area Thrash bands like iron maiden, metallica, slayer, megadeth, diamond head, angel witch, death angel and so on! I was mostly influenced by seeing the live footage of metallica –for whom the bell tolls with the bass solo from Cliff Burton in 1986. At that point I realised I wanted to do the same thing.


Since your album “Disaster Strikes Back” you mix Death and Thrash Metal, who came up with that idea and why?


When Jason joined the band, we all automatically started listening to old school death metal bands, as he is a big fan of the genre. He wrote a lot of music on Disaster Strikes Back which resulted in Entombed like riffs incorporated in Thrash metal.


What are your music influences nowadays?


Our musical influences go throughout the entire metal spectrum. I am a big fan of bay area thrash, black metal and Florida death metal like Testament, Exodus, Death, obituary, Marduk, Watain,…, Jason mostly listens to teutonic thrash, Swedish death metal and post metal like Kreator, Sodom, Entombed, Amenra, Oathbreaker,… Dennis likes brutal death metal like Aborted, Sylosis,… and Ben is a huge fan of deathcore and technical death metal like All Shall Perish.


Who created the artwork of the LP and what is its meaning?


The artwork was created by an art student called Pieter Geusens from Belgium. We wanted to give young guys a chance to make some good artwork to spread their name. With the artwork we wanted to create a mix between the two main themes in our album, namely horror and religious imbecility. The Priest and the man represents both the fear we can feel from horror stories as the feeling of captivity in dogmatic religions.


What is your favourite song on the new album “For The Dead Travel Fast”? Why it is your favourite song and what is it about?


Well, that’s a pretty tough choice! We’d go for either perversion of purity or For the Dead Travel Fast. Perversion of Purity has everything we like in a good song: tight riffs, groovy death metal parts, beautiful melodies and solo’s and good dynamics overall. Lyrically, the song is pretty important to me as it goes about women’s rights. More specifically it tells the story about a woman that gets abused, and the offender that is protected by our patriarchical society. For the Dead Travel Fast on the other hand is just really catchy and strong, with an amazing solo! It simply narrates one of the best horror stories ever written, namely Bram Stoker’s Dracula.


How was your CD Release in Antwerp?


It was amazing! We had a great turnout and saw a both a lot of friends as new fans in the crowd! Everybody said the show was amazing and there was a good atmosphere in the crowd, going from headbanging and screaming to circle pits and wall of deaths.


I think the Metal Scene in Belgium is very active, so where are the Metal Hot Spots and which other Belgian Metal Band would you recommend?


We would say the best place for metal in Belgium is Antwerp! There are a lot of great venues there, and a lot of metalheads that come to each show and know how to party like there is no tomorrow! There are a lot of great metal bands in Belgium, and a few of the better ones are Evil Invaders, Carnation, Marginal, Speed Queen, Turbowarrior of Steel,… but there are too much to mention really.


You toured a lot, so which was the most exciting show you played?


Without any doubt that was in Turock with Suicidal Angels, Dr. Living Dead and Angelus Apatrida. It was a sold out show in one of the most legendary venues in Europe, with bands like Kreator walking around in the backstage. It was just a dream coming true!


Which was the most interesting band or musician you met?


That would be the time Jason and me met LG Petrov from Entombed at Antwerp Metal Fest. We just started talking with him backstage, which turned out to be a very funny conversation as we all were pretty drunk. It went from how our show went down there the previous year to him telling some of his drunk stories.


What is your favourite song to play live and why?


That’s a hard choice, but we’d go with Ominous! It’s an extremely fast song, with aggressive vocals, and the most awesome breakdown at the end of the song. During every facet of Ominous we can see the enjoyment of the crowd, from the trance of the intro, to the circle pits at the middle part and the headbanging at the end. A real crowd pleaser!


What are your plans for the future?


Just what every band wants to do actually haha! Touring, writing a new record and playing festivals. The most concrete plans we have is touring Europe with Nargaroth, Absu and Hate and some cool shows this summer in a lot of different venues.
