Mit neuem Line-up, neuer EP und neuem Musikvideo starten die Jungs von EVIL INVADERS so richtig durch. Wir haben uns kurz vor ihrem Konzert mit Bassisten Joeri und Lead Gitarristen Max getroffen und gefragt was sie in Zukunft noch alles vorhaben. Die Geschichte der Band sowie wichtige Überlebenstipps für den Winter könnt ihr im folgenden Interview nachlesen.


Ihr habt gerade die EP “In for the Kill” veröffentlicht. Mit den beiden neuen Songs “As Life Slowly Fades” und “Raising Hell”. Was könnt ihr uns darüber erzählen. Wer hat die Songs ausgewählt und warum?


Max: Grundsätzlich haben wir alle die Songs ausgewählt. Es sind die neuen Songs die wir gerade erst komplett fertiggestellt haben. Deshalb haben wir sie gewählt. Die Sache ist, seit wir das neue Line-Up haben gibt es eine Menge an neuen Einflüssen, wie zum Beispiel, dass die beiden neuen Songs von mir geschrieben wurden. Davor war Joe der Haupt-Songwriter. Wir dachten es ist ein guter Weg, um den Fortschritt den wir gerade machen zu demonstrieren und zu zeigen wie sich das neue Line-Up eigentlich anhört.




Seit wann spielt ihr in dieser Konstellation?


Joeri: Ich denke seit August letzten Jahres. Ab da war ich offiziell das neuste Mitglied, also starteten wir ab diesem Zeitpunkt sozusagen mit dem neuen Line-Up.


Wieso habt ihr die beiden Live Songs “Pulses Of Pleasure” und “Victim Of Sacrifice” auf die EP gepackt?


Max: Wir dachten, dass dies die stärksten Songs aus unserem Live Set sind.

Joeri: Die zwei Songs hören sich Live einfach besser an als die Studio Version. Das Intro von “Pulses Of Pleasure” ist zum Beispiel viel langsamer und kraftvoller und wir wollten unseren Fans zeigen, wie sich die Songs Live anhören, damit sie dieses Feeling auch im Auto oder zu Hause miterleben können. Das ist der Grund warum wir die beiden Tracks gewählt haben. Das gleiche gilt natürlich auch für “Victim Of Sacrifice”. Das Ende des Songs ist wirklich episch und das wollten wir einfach auf der neuen CD zeigen.


Also sind das auch eure Favoriten, wenn ihr Live spielt?


Beide Lachen und nicken einvernehmlich.


Gibt es auch noch einen anderen EVIL INVADERS Song den ihr sehr mögt und wenn ja, warum?


Max: “Tortured by the Beast”.

Joeri: Für mich gibt es eigentlich zwei “Tortured by the Beast” von unserer ersten EP. Wir mögen den Song wirklich sehr und würden ihn auch gerne wieder live spielen. Aber unser Sänger, wir haben versucht ihn zu überreden, aber mal schauen.

Max: <<<>Ja wir werden sehen. Ich bin wirklich glücklich mit den neuen Songs, vor allem „Raising Hell“.


Welche Bands beeinflussen eure Musik?


Joeri: Die Einflüsse kommen aus verschieden Richtungen, nicht nur Thrash Metal, wie EXODUS und OVERKILL, sondern auch Heavy Metal, wie JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN und so weiter. Ich höre eigentlich mehr Death Metal, wie BLOODBATH. Es gibt viele verschiedene Stile und nicht nur ein Genre oder eine Band die mich beeinflussen.


Also hört ihr eher das alte Zeug, ich meine Old School Bands?


Beide: Yeah, yeah!

Max: Wir haben alle verschiedene Einflüsse, aber treffen uns an einem Punkt. Wir beide hören eher das extremere Zeug und Joe liebt zum Beispiel SAVATAGE und Senne mag MAIDEN, aber am Ende treffen wir uns immer an einem Punkt.

Joeri: Die Spannweite reicht von „glammy“, „cheesy“ Songs bis hin zu extremen Grindcore.




Woher kennt ihr euch eigentlich?


Joeri: Wir haben uns nicht alle vorher gekannt.

Max: Ich kannte Joe und Senne schon seit einiger Zeit. Aber meine Geschichte geht zurück bis ins Jahr 2009. Wir waren schon seit einigen Jahren Freunde und unter gewissen Umständen kam es dazu, dass ich den Ex-Bass Spieler für eine Tour ersetzen sollte und bin seit dem nicht mehr aus der Band verschwunden (lacht). Dann ist der Gitarrist gegangen und ich wollte eigentlich Gitarre spielen und dann haben wir ihn gefunden.

Joeri: Ich kannte die anderen, ihn nicht, aber ich kannte Joe und Senne, weil ich in einer anderen Band vor EVIL INVADERS gespielt habe und wir bei einigen Shows beide einen Auftritt hatten. Wir waren beide belgische Bands und spielten auf den gleichen Veranstaltungen, also kannten wir uns.


Habt ihr viele Fans in Belgien?


Beide lachen und Joeri antwortet: Ich denke schon.

Max: Ich denke zurzeit kommen unsere Fans vor allem aus Belgien und Deutschland.


Was habt ihr vor wenn die Tour vorbei ist?


Joeri: Dann haben wir erstmal zwei Wochen Pause und dann geht es weiter nach Osteuropa. Wir werden in Polen, Estland, Lettland, Russland und einigen andern Orten spielen. Es gibt sieben Termine und wir werden jeden Tag spielen, damit es sich in einer Woche ausgeht.


Und danach? Was sind eure Pläne?


Max: Wir werden an unserem neuen Album arbeiten.

Joeri: Wir werden an den Songs arbeiten und hoffen, dass wir sie noch vor dem Sommer nächstes Jahr veröffentlichen können.


Woher bekommt ihr die Ideen für ein neues Album oder die Texte die ihr schreibt?


Max: Bei den Texten sind es vor allem persönliche Erfahrungen. Du weißt schon das tägliche Zeug das so passiert. Ich denke jeder hat sein Päckchen zu tragen. Ich und wahrscheinlich auch Joe schreiben am meisten über…, ausgenommen „Raising Hell“ das war ein MOTÖRHEAD Tribute (lacht).




Was war eines eurer besten Konzerte und warum?


Joeri: Für mich war es Graspop. Ich denke für alle von uns, weil wir dort die Jahre vorher auch schon immer hingehangen sind, nur eben als Zuschauer und es war großartig letztendlich dort zu spielen. Ich denke es war die gleiche Erfahrung für alle von uns und natürlich auch die Release Shows.

Max: Ja die Release Shows waren wirklich extrem gut.


Gibt es ein Festival auf dem ihr unbedingt einmal spielen möchtet?


Joeri: Ich würde gerne am Hellfest spielen.

Max: Bang Your Head Festival. Das wäre ziemlich cool.


Kennt ihre eigentlich auch schon die andern Jungs von MORTILLERY, SKULL FIST oder SUICIDAL ANGELS?


Max: Wir kennen SKULL FIST. Wir haben mit ihnen bereits letztes Jahr eine Tour gemacht, daher sind wir sozusagen Freunde. SUICIDAL ANGELS und MORTILLERY kannten wir eigentlich nur von den Alben, aber jetzt haben wir sie ein bisschen kennen gelernt.

Jueri: Wir sind jetzt schon seit vier Wochen mit SUICIDAL ANGELS unterwegs, also haben wir sie bereits näher kennen gelernt. MORTILLERY ist erst vor kurzem dazu gestoßen, weil der erste Teil der Tour mit CRISIX war. Danach ist erst MORTILLERY gekommen, aber es sind nette Personen, alle von ihnen, Kanadier eben.

Max: Die sind immer nett. Großartige Leute.

Joeri: Sie machen auch gute Musik, aber ich mag eher SKULL FIST, die höre ich auch oft zu Hause.


Gibt es noch etwas was ihr euren Fans mitteilen wollt?


Max: Esst nicht den gelben Schnee! (alle lachen)

Joeri: Seht euch den neusten Videoclip „Raising Hell“ an und habt ein Auge auf unsere Facebook Seite, wir werden in Kürze ankündigen auf welchen Festivals wir nächstes Jahr spielen.

Max: Das nächste Jahr wird aufregend. Vor allem die Veröffentlichung unseres neuen Albums.

Joeri: Wir haben auch unser erstes Konzert in den USA.

Max: Ja es geht zum Spring Bash.

Joeri: Das ist das erste Festival in den Staaten bei dem wir spielen werden. Sie wollten eine exklusive Show. Es ist zwar nur eine Show, aber wir werden sicher noch wo anders herum touren. Im Moment ist noch nichts bestätigt. Wir werden sehen.

You just released your new EP “In for the Kill” with two new Songs “As Life Slowly Fades” and “Raising Hell”. What can you tell us about them? Who chooses the songs and why?


Max: Basically we all chose the songs. They are the new songs which were already entirely finished. That’s why we choose these two songs. The thing is, since we have a new line-up there are a lot of new influences coming into the band, for example the new two songs are written by me. Before Joe was the main songwriter. We thought it was a good way to demonstrate the progress we made and how the new line-up actually sounds.


Since when do you play in that constellation?


Joeri: I think since august last year, I was officially the new member, so since then we play in this new line-up.


Why did you put the two life songs “Pulses Of Pleasure” and “Victim Of Sacrifice” on the new EP?


Max: We thought like they are one of our strongest songs in the live set.

Joeri: Those two songs are actually played better live than the ones we did record in the studio, because for example the intro of “Pulses Of Pleasure” is live way more slowly and more powerful and we really wanted to show the audience how it sounds if they listen to it in the car or at home, so that’s why we choose them. It’s the same with “Victim Of Sacrifice”. The ending is really like, epic and we wanted to really show that on a CD too.


So are those also your favourite songs to play life?


Both laughing and bowing their heads.


So then which Evil Invaders song do you like most and why?


Max: “Tortured by the Beast”.

Joeri: For me there are actually two “Tortured by the Beast” from the first EP. We really like that song and want to bring it back live actually. But our singer, we tried to convince him. We will see.

Max: Yeah, we will see. I am happy with the new songs, above all “Raising Hell”.


What are your favourite bands and which bands influenced your style of music?


Joeri: The influences come from different styles, not only Thrash Metal, like EXODUS and OVERKILL, but also Heavy Metal like JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN and so on. But I listen also to more Death Metal Stuff, like BLOODBATH. It’s all kind of different styles it’s not like one genre or one band that influences me.


So you’re listening more to old stuff I mean old school bands?


Both: Yeah, yeah!

Max: We all have different influences but meet at one point. We are listening more to the extreme stuff and Joe loves SAVATAGE for example and Senne loves MAIDEN, but in the end we all meet at one point.

Joeri: It goes from glammy, cheesy stuff to the really extreme Grindcore.


Where do you know each other from?


Joeri: Not all of us did know each other before.

Max: I knew Joe and Senne for quite a while. But my story goes way back like 2009. We all have been like friends over the years and under certain circumstances I ended up replacing the ex-bass player for a tour and never left this band since then. (laughing) Then the guitarist left and I liked to play guitar and then we found him.

Joeri: I knew the other… Him, I didn’t know but the other guys I knew, because I had another band before EVIL INVADERS and we played together quite some shows with my other band and EVIL INVADERS. So I knew the guys from some shows. We were both Belgian bands and played in the same venues for a lot of times. Before EVIL INVADERS got international they played many Belgian shows and this was with my other band also the case and so we met.


Do you have a lot of Fans in Belgium?


Both laughing.

Joeri: I think so.

Max: I think nowadays most of our fans are from Belgium and Germany.


What are you going to do when the tour is finished?


Joeri: Two weeks of rest and then we are going to the east of Europe. So we will go to Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Russia and so on. We will have seven dates and will play every day, so we can do it in one week.


And after that? I mean what are your plans?


Max: We will work on our new LP.

Joeri: We’re gonna work on the songs and hope we will release it before summer next year.


Where do you get the ideas for creating a new album or writing the lyrics?


Max: Well for the lyrics it’s mostly personal experiences. You know the daily things that are going on. I mean everybody has a package to carry and stuff, you know. For me and I guess for Joe as well we mostly write about, except “Raising Hell”, “Raising Hell” is actually a MOTÖRHEAD Tribute. (laughing)


What was one of your most amazing concerts and why?


Joeri: For me it was Graspop. I think for all of us, because we went there for a couple of years just a visitors and it was so awesome to finally play there. I think it was the same experience for all of us and the release shows also.

Max: Yeah the release shows were great.


Is there also one festival where you want to play in the future but haven’t played yet?


Joeri: I would like to play at Hellfest.

Max: Bang Your Head Festival. That would be pretty cool.

Joeri: We will see what happens.


Do you know any of the other guys from MORTILLERY, SKULL FIST or SUICIDAL ANGELS?


Max: We know SKULL FIST. We did a tour with them last year already, so we are like friends. SUICIDAL ANGELS and MORTILLERY we knew them only from the record but now we get them to know.

Joeri: We are with SUICIDAL on the road almost four weeks now, so we got a pretty good bond now with them. MORTILLERY is just new, because the first leg of the tour was with CRISIX. So then MORTILLERY came but they are really nice guys, all of them, Canadian dudes.

Max: They are always nice. Always great people.

Joeri: They have also good music. But I especially like SKULL FIST, I listened to them at home a lot, you know.


Do you have anything else to say to your fans?


Max: Don’t eat the yellow snow! (everybody is laughing)

Max: Next year will be exciting. Especially with the release.

Joeri: We also go to the USA for the first time.

Max: To the Spring Bash.

Joeri: That’s the first festival we will do in the States. They wanted an exclusive show. It is only for one show, but maybe we will tour in another part of the world. But it is nothing confirmed yet. We will see.
