Die italienische Rock- und Metal-Szene ist durchaus lebendig, auch wenn es leider nur wenige Bands aus unserem südlichen Nachbarland bis auf unsere Konzertbühnen schaffen. SPIRAL69 zählen zu dieser Szene und Bandgründer Riccardo Sabetti stand uns für ein Interview zur Verfügung.


Hi Ricardo! Würdest du euch bitte vorstellen?


SPIRAL69 ist eine Band, die 2007 gegründet wurde, ursprünglich als Solo-Projekt von mir, Riccardo Sabetti, geboren und hat sich im Laufe der Zeit zu einer wahren und richtigen Band mit der Ergänzung durch Enzo Russo und Andrea Freda entwickelt. Wir spielen eine nicht klar definierte Art von Musik, die das Gothic-Publikum fasziniert, aber auch die Hörer von Rock und Indie Musik im Allgemeinen.




Was ist die Idee hinter dem Bandnamen?


Es ist der Name eines alten Pornofilmes, wir mögen den Kontrast eines Namens zu dem "weichen Kern" in den ersten Dingen, die wir geschrieben haben, im Gegensatz dazu sind wir sehr akustisch und "romantisch".


Ist Italien ein guter Ort, um Musik zu machen?


Definitiv nein. Oder zumindest ist es kein gutes Land, um unsere Musik zu spielen ...
Italiener sind sehr an ihre eigene Sprache gebunden und sind immer sehr zurückhaltend dabei, Projekte in anderer Sprache zu akzeptieren... außer bei außergewöhnlichen Umständen.


SPIRAL69 war zunächst ein Solo-Projekt, aber jetzt ist es eine Band. Mögt ihr es live zu spielen?


Live fanden wir die wahre Bedeutung von SPIRAL69.
Wir sind in der Tat eine Band und das erste Album war ein Versuch zu verstehen, in welche Richtung wir uns kompositorisch bewegen könnten... Aber seit wir eine Combo sind, sind wir sind sehr zufrieden mit beidem, sowohl mit der Studioarbeit, der Reife beim Schreiben, und vor allem mit den Live-Performances.


Habt ihr schon einmal in Österreich gespielt?


Noch nicht, aber wir arbeiten daran!


Kennt ihr Österreich ein wenig?


Sehr wenig, vor ein paar Jahren war ich im Urlaub in Wien.
Andrea (unser Drummer) hat mehrere Male mit seiner anderen Band, THE SPIRITUAL FRONT in Österreich gespielt.


Wie oft trefft ihr euch zum Proben?


Dies ist eine Frage, die mich zum Lächeln bringt, weil wir wirklich sehr wenig proben.
Wir mögen es, die Proben auf die Tage vor dem Konzert zu konzentrieren, aber der Hauptteil unserer Gemeinschaft wurde auf der Bühne geboren.


Nun zu eurem neuen Album "Second Chance". Welche Idee steckt hinter dem Titel?


Das Album wurde nach einer schwierigen Zeit geboren, in der ich mich mit der Krankheit meiner Mutter und der danach folgenden Tortur befassen musste...
In diesem Moment wurde mir klar, dass einem das Leben nicht immer eine zweite Chance gibt, auch nicht für einfache Dinge, wie Blicke auf das Meer, oder in der Lage zu sein, die frische Luft von einem Krankenhausbett zu erleben.


Bist du der Meinung, dass jeder sollte eine zweite Chance bekommen sollte?


Ja absolut.
Nur jemand, der in ein sehr schreckliches Verbrechen verwickelt ist hat vielleicht keine zweite Chance verdient.


Wie lange habt ihr an dem Album gearbeitet?


Fast zwei Jahre, viele Lieder wurden geboren, während wir auf Tour waren, dann gab es einen Pause bei den Konzerten von sechs Monaten, wo wir alles zum Abschluss gebracht haben, aber die Aufnahmen haben nicht mehr als zwei Monate gedauert.
Es ist ein Album, das zwischen Neapel, Rom und London aufgenommen wurde, aber es erforderte auch viel Zeit, um sich von einer Stadt in die andere zu bewegen, sich dort zu assimilieren und sie in unsere Songs einfließen zu lassen.




Wo findet ihr die Inspiration für eure Songs?


Im Leben, im richtigen, und es gibt nichts, was nicht wirklich Teil unseres Lebens ist..
Es klingt wie ein Fake, und die emotionale Komponente in unseren Songs ist vielleicht mehr als 50% des Liedes ... so dass es nicht funktionieren würde.


Welche Frau sang mit dir bei "No Mercy"?


Das ist Campironi Mimosa, eine junge italienische Sängerin / Schauspielerin. Ihre Stimme und ihr Pathos haben mich ganz und gar überzeugt. Ich fühlte den Wunsch, ein Lied zu schreiben, wo wir zusammen singen konnten.


Warum verwendet ihr sehr oft Synthesizer-Sounds?


Weil ich glaube, dass es nicht nur ein Instrument ist, um uns auszudrücken. Im Grunde komponiere ich mit allem, was mir unter meine Hände kommt ... Also, wo ich das Bedürfnis habe, ein Gefühl mit einem präzisen Sound zu erzeugen, verwenden ich dasjenige, das mich emotional zufrieden macht ... in einige Fällen verwende ich Synths!


Welche Gefühle möchtet ihr in euren Zuhörern erzeugen?


Wir möchten den Zuhörer in den Mittelpunkt unserer Geschichten bringen, wir möchten seine Hand nehmen und ihm übermitteln, was wir in Geist und Herz haben, und sicherzustellen dass er in der Lage ist, es durch seine Empfindungen zu filtern.


Ihr werdet in Russland spielen? Seid ihr schon dort gewesen, und was sind eure Erwartungen?


Dies ist das dritte Mal, dass ich in Russland spiele und es ist ein wunderschönes Land mit einem einmaligen Publikum!
Dieses Mal werden wir an einigen noch größeren Plätzen spielen, so erwarten wir eine größere Fangemeinde und eine stärkere Beteiligung ...




Gibt es einen speziellen Ort wo ihr live spielen möchtet?


Wir spielten in den meisten Ländern Europas und des Ostens, wir möchten die Grenzen nach Amerika oder Japan überwinden. Wer weiß, vielleicht eines Tages!


Was sind eure Pläne für die Zukunft?


Wir supporten unser neues Album "Second Chance" überall und ich denke, wir werden das für die nächsten zwei bis drei Jahre machen.
Bald beginnen wir mit den Dreharbeiten für das Video für die neue Single "Colors And Grey" und natürlich wollen wir so viel wie möglich live spielen und damit dafür sorgen, dass uns viele neue Menschen entdecken ...

Hi Ricardo! Will you please introduce yourself?


The SPIRAL69 are a band formed in 2007, originally born as a draft solo Riccardo Sabetti, and over time it evolves to a true and proper band with the addition of Enzo Russo and Andrea Freda.
We play a kind of music not defined, that fascinates the audience goth, but also the listener rock and indie music in general.


What is the idea behind your bandname?


Is the name of an old porn movies, we like the contrast of a name "soft core" with the first things that we wrote, that on the contrary we´re very acoustic and "romantic".


Is Italy a good place to make music?


Absolutely no. or at least, is not a good country to play our music ...
Italians are very tied to their own language and are always very reluctant to accept projects in foreign
languages ... except in extraordinary circumstances.


SPIRAL69 was first a solo-project but now it is a band. Do you like to play live?


In live we found the true meaning of SPIRAL69.
We are a band in effect, the first album was a try to understand in which direction we could move
compositionally...But since we are a combo we are really pleased with both the studio work, the maturity in the writing, and especially in live performances.


Have you ever played in Austria?


Not yet ..but we are working on!


Do you know Austria a little bit?


Very little, I was on vacation in Vienna a few years ago ..
Andrea (our drummer) has played several times in Austria with his other band, THE SPIRITUAL FRONT.


How often are you meeting for rehearsals?


This is a question that makes me smile ... because we do really very few rehearsaling ...
We like to concentrate them in the days before the concert, but the bulk of our fellowship was born on stage.


Now to the new album “Second Chance”. What is the idea behind the title?


The album was born after a difficult period, where I had to deal with my mother’s illness and the ordeal that followed ...
At that moment I realized that life does not give you always the second chance, even for simple things, like seeing the sea, or being able to see the open air not from a hospital bed.


Is your opinion, that everybody should get a second chance?


Yes, absolutely.
Only someone who is covered in horrendous crimes, perhaps, not deserves a second chance.


How long did you work at the album?


Nearly two years, many songs were born while we were on tour, then there was a stop of concerts of six months where we finalized everything, but records have not taken more than two months of work.
It is an album recorded between Naples, Rome and London, so there were also the time required to move from one city to the other, assimilate it and pour it in our songs.


Where do you find the inspiration for your songs?


in life, the real one, there is nothing that not is really part of our lives ..
It sounds like a fake, and the emotional component in our songs is perhaps more than 50% of the song ... so it would not work.


Which woman was singing with you at “No Mercy”?


She is Campironi Mimosa, a singer / actress Italian young, his voice and his pathos won me over
completely. I felt the desire to write a song where we can sing along.


Why do you use very often Synthesizer-Sounds?


Because I believe there isn’t only a instrument to express ourselves, I basically compose with everything that comes under my hands…So where I feel the need to create a feeling with a precise sound, use the one that makes me satisfied emotionally…in some cases I use synths!


What feelings do you want to produce in your listeners?


We like to bring the listener at the center of our stories,
so we like to take his hand and send him what we have in mind and heart, and make sure he is able to filter it through his sensations.


You will play in Russia? Have you been there before, and what are your expectations?


This is the third time I’ll play in Russia, it is a wonderful country with an amazing audience!
This time we’ll play in some places even bigger, so we expect a greater following and more involvement...


Is there a special place where you want to play live?


We played in most of Europe and the East, we would like to push the boundaries to America or Japan...
who knows, maybe one day!


What are your plans for the future?


We are promoting our new album “Second Chance” everywhere and I think we will do it for the next 2 or 3 years ... soon be filming the video for the new single, "Colors and Grey" and certainly we want to play live as much as possible and make us discover from many others people ...
