Die Power Metal-Überflieger BLOODBOUND hatten schon einige Höhepunkte in ihrer Karriere, leider auch so manchen Tiefpunkt. Doch mit Patrik Johansson, der mittlerweile drei Alben am Stück einsingen konnte, ist nun auch das Sängerproblem entgültig gelöst, auch wenn seine Vorgänger Michael Bormann und Urban Breed Szenegrößen sein mögen. Auch auf dem neuesten Werk "Stormborn" machen die Herren aus Schweden keinen Hehl um ihre Idole, schlagen aber trotzdem neue Wege ein. Herausgekommen ist ein bombastisches und verdammt abwechslungsreiches Stück Power Metal. Da haben wir bei Gitarrist Tomas Olsson nachgefragt.



Hey, ihr neues Album „Stormborn“ ist gerade erschienen, wie fühlt ich euch jetzt?


Mir geht’s echt großartig… ein bisschen müde, aber großartig ?


Wie waren die Reaktionen darauf bisher?


Das Album hat echt gute Reviews bis jetzt bekommen und das wichtigste überhaupt, die Fans scheinen es zu mögen.


Warum den Titel „Stormborn“?


Der Titeltrack „Stormborn“ handelt von Daenerys Stormborn von „Game Of Thrones“. Ich bin echt ein riesiger Fan und mir gefiel der Gedanke einen Song über ihre Reise und Schwierigkeiten dabei zu schreiben.


Und wie stehts mit dem Artwork? Es ist das erste Album von euch mit einem ganz gewöhnlichen Typen darauf…


Das ist unser Maskottchen „Nosferatu“ in einem Feuersturm, ähnlich zu Daenerys´ Drachen finde ich…




Es ist auch das erste Mal, dass ihr drei Alben hintereinander mit dem selben Sänger gemacht habt. Ich nehme an, dass sich das ziemlich großartig anfühlt und die Chemie zwischen den Bandmitgliedern scheint ziemlich gut…
Wenn du ein bisschen zurückblickst – wie denkst du jetzt über die Zeit mit Urban, Michael und die ganzen Line Up-Veränderungen? Es schien, als wäre es ziemlich turbulente Zeit für BLOODBOUND gewesen.


Ja, wir hatten einige Probleme in der Vergangenheit, aber wir haben nun ein stabiles Line Up mit Patrik und Anders. Nun sind wir die Band, die wir eigentlich von Beginn an sein wollten.


Dann lass uns über das neue Album reden. Wie war der Schaffensprozess diesmal? Wie jedes Album von euch klingt es wieder komplett anders im Vergleich zum letzten.


Ja, wir wollten, dass dieses Album hymnischer und schneller wird. Wir haben also dieses Mal mehr Chöre und Keyboards eingebaut. Die Produktion ist auch größer und besser.




Ihr habt nie ein Geheimnis aus eurer Inspirationsquelle gemacht. Auf dem ersten Album waren es ganz offensichtlich HELLOWEEN und IRON MAIDEN. Nun können wir wieder verschiedenste Größen der Metalszene raushören, aber für mich und eure Fans seid ihr natürlich einzigartig. Was hält ihr von den Leuten, die Herumjammern weil ihr andere angeblich kopiert?


Klar ist es das Beste komplett einzigartig zu sein, aber das ist nicht unser Problem, es geht um die Qualität des Songwriting. Aber für manche ist eben Originalität sehr wichtig und das akzeptiere ich auch, es gibt genügend andere Musik da draußen, die gehört werden möchte.


Und was sind aktuell eure bewussten oder vielleicht unbewussten Einflüsse?


Ich glaube, dass man ein bisschen NIGHTWISH und SABATON-Einflüsse bei ein paar Songs raushören kann, aber im Grunde sind es die selben alten klassischen Bands, aber wir versuchen es etwas moderner zu gestalten… Ich glaube, dass wir mehr und mehr als eine eigenständige Band klingen.


Mir gefällt der Kinderchor bei „Nightmares From The Grave“ sehr gut. Wer sind diese Kids und woher kommt die Idee?


Der Refrain bon „Nightmares From The Grave“ klingt fast wie ein Schlaflied, darum dachten wir, dass es cool wäre, einen Kinderchor einzufügen. Ich glaube, das erzeugt dann einfach dieses gruselige Feeling bei dem Song und komplettiert ihn. Die Kinder sind die Sprösslinge von Freunden und sie haben einen wirklich fantastischen Job gemacht!


Es ist irgendwie etwas eigen, Kinder darüber singen zu lassen, getötet zu werden. Was habt ihr euch nur dabei gedacht?


Ja, ich glaube, das ist aber auch genau der Kontrast, der den Song so cool macht. Aber da hast du natürlich recht, das ist schon etwas bizarr.




Worum geht’s in den restlichen Lyrics?


Es ist kein Konzeptalbum, aber ein paar Songs sind von „Game Of Thrones“ beeinflusst, wie eben der Titeltrack.


Ihr hattet schon die Chance ein paar Songs live zu performen – wie sind sie angekommen?


Wir haben bisher nur ein paar Songs live gespielt, aber das gesamte Gefühl ist einfach großartig und ich hoffe, dass wir sobald wie möglich noch ein paar mehr Songs zum Liveset hinzufügen können.


Gibt’s schon Pläne für eine Tour oder Festivals 2015?


Ja, wir werden diesen Sommer eine DVD am Masters Of Rock Festival in Tschechien aufnehmen. Und es gibt außerdem eine Europatournee, die am 20. März startet. Ich hoffe, dass ich da alle von euch dort sehen werde! Cheers!

Hey guys, your newest record „Stormborn“ was released a few days ago, how do you feel now?


I feel great about it...a little tired, but great:)


How are the reactions so far?


The new album has reveived positive reviews and most important, the fans seem to like it a lot!


What is the title “Stormborn” about?


The title track "Stormborn" is about Daenerys Stormborn from "Game of Thrones". I´m a big fan and I thought it would be cool to write a song about her journey and struggles.


What can you tell me about the artwork? It´s the first one without the usual guy on it...


It´s our mascot "Nosferatu" being forged in a firestorm, similar to Daenerys dragons I guess...


It´s the first time you made three records in a row with the same singer. I guess this feels great and the chemistry in the band seems also very good...
If you make a little look back – how do you think now about the time with Urban, Michael and all the line-up changes? It seems it was a quite turbulent time for BLOODBOUND.


Yes, we have had some problems in the past, but we finally got a stable line-up when Patrik and Anders joined the band. Now we are the band we should have been from the start.


So let´s talk about the new record. How was the procedure of creating this time? Like every record, it sounds quite different to last one.


Yes, we wanted the album to be more anthemic and faster. We also added more choirs and keyboards this time. It´s also a bigger and better production.


You never made any secrets about your inspiration. On the first record it was obviously HELLOWEEN and IRON MAIDEN. Now we can find many big names from the metal scene in your sound, but for me and your fans you are unique anyway. What do you think about people that are mourning around about nonsense like copying other bands?


Of course it´s best to be totally unique, but that is not our struggle, it´s the quality of the songwriting. But for some people originality is very important and thats fine with me, there are plenty of music out there to listen to.


What are your conscious and maybe unconscious influences at the moment?


I think you can hear some new Nightwish, Sabaton influences in a few songs, but it´s mainly the same old classic bands but we try to make it more modern...I think we sound more and more like our own band.


I really love the children-choir on “Nightmares From The Grave”. Who are the kids and how came the idea?


The chorus to the song “Nightmares From The Grave” is almost like a lullaby so we thought it would be cool to add a childrens choir, I think it adds a creepy feeling to the song and makes it complete. It´s some of our friends kids that made an amazing job!


It seems a little bit ironic to let children sing about being killed. What was the intention behind it?


Yes, I think it´s the contrast the makes it cool. But you are right...it´s a bit bizzare...


What can you tell me about the other lyrics?


It´s not a concept album but a few songs are influenced by "Game of Thrones" like the title track.


You already had the chance to play new songs live – how did they turn out?


We have only played a few songs live yet, but the overall feeling is great, i hope we can add more songs to the live set as soon as possible.


Are there already plans for touring or festivals in 2015?


Yes, we will record a DVD this summer at the "Master of Rock Festival" in Czech Republic. There is also a European tour that starts on March 20, looking forward to that and to see you all there! Cheers!
