THE CLOUDYCATORS - eine aufstrebende Band aus Tampere Finnland, haben mit ihrem eigensinnigen dunklen Sound, der die finnische Melancholie mit Thrash- and Heavy Metal vereint und dem absolut nicht dazu passenden Video zu ihrer ersten Single "Animal", des eben erschienenen Albums "Land Of The Cloudycators", bei mir für Eindruck gesorgt.
Dazugehörige Pressetexte, in denen sie ankündigten, dass sie in zehn Jahren entweder eine Welttournee machen oder in die Betty Ford Klinik einchecken, oder Jessica Alba heiraten wollen, ließen mich noch neugieriger werden auf die extrem talentierten Finnen. Darum habe ich die Gelegenheit und den Sänger Junnu beim Schopf gepackt und genau den auch bezüglich Details ausgequetscht. Was dabei Eigenwilliges ans Licht kam, lest ihr hier:

Kannst du dich und die Band für die österreichischen Leser mal vorstellen?


Howdy an die österreichischen Leser! Mein Name ist Junnu und ich bin der Sänger der Band THE CLOUDYCATORS. Wir kommen aus Tampere Finnland. Die anderen Bandmitglieder sind: Der „Gitarr-Trasher und Park flasher“ Alarik. Wir haben auch noch einen „Gitarr Hero oder Weirdo“, der glatzköpfige und wunderschöne Paavo. Die „Unbreakable Wall of Bass“ in diesem Fall führt uns zu den dreckigen Fingern von Mika. Und zu guter Letzt das schnelle und schmutzige Kind von den Slums hinter den Drums: Kimmo.




Was hat euch dazu getrieben, diese Band zu gründen? Kanntet ihr euch schon länger?


Wir haben uns schon länger von den verschiedenen anderen Bands gekannt. Irgendwann hat mich Alarik dann angerufen und gemeint, er hätte schon ein Dutzend Songs, die er gerne mit jemanden machen würde. Darum scharte er die besten Musiker um sich, die er kannte und die für die Band passen würden und der Rest reiht sich in die Geschichte des Rock’n’Roll ein. Zumindest hoffe ich das.


Was bedeutet euer Bandname THE CLOUDYCATORS? Wie seid ihr darauf gekommen?


Der Name CLOUDYCATORS bildet sich aus den Wörtern „claudication“ und den Anfang des Namens haben wir dann in „cloudy“ verdreht.
Claudication kommt von dem lateinischen Wort „claudicatio“, was sowiel bedeutet wie Hinken und in Finnland ist es eine mentale Störung, hervorgerufen von zu vielem Saufen. Du kannst hier überall in den Straßen Claudicators sehen. Man muss also kein Hellseher sein, um zu wissen, wie sich die Cloudycators in 20 Jahren aufführen werden.
Das „cloudy“ am Anfang des Namens verkörpert unsere Band. Man weiß nie, wie sich die Dinge entwickeln nach einem langen wolkigen Wetter. Es kann ein Sturm werden, der dir das Hirn wegbläst oder ein sonniges heißes Paradies der Liebe.


Euer Album „Land Of The Cloudycators“ kam im Februar 2014 heraus, wie ging es euch beim Schreiben der Songs und den Studioaufnahmen? War es ein Leichtes für euch?


Es war ziemlich einfach für uns. Die Band war ja noch relativ jung und wir hatten noch einen frischen Wind. Alarik hatte auch schon die meisten Songs zu Hause komponiert und hat uns seine Ideen vorgespielt. Es hat sofort klick gemacht. Wir haben dann viele lange Tage damit verbracht, die Songs zu üben und hatten einfach so viel Energie. Ich habe dann die Lyrics zu den Songs geschrieben, wir rannten ins Studio und Puff. Schon waren wir fertig und machten uns auf den Weg um richtig Krach zu machen.




Was kannst du mir über die Lyrics erzählen? Um was geht’s bei euch in den Songs?


Tja, ich war schon immer so ne Art Horrorfreak. Von dem Tage an, an dem lesen konnte, habe ich all die schrägen Bücher, Filme usw mehr oder weniger gefressen. So wie H.P.Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Robert Bloch, Edgar Allan Poe und solchen Shit. Alte finnische Dichter und Sänger haben mich auch sehr berührt in der Art zu denken und Texte zu schreiben. Wir haben zum Beispiel einen Song der „Cenobite“ heißt. Cenobiten sind diese brillianten und zugleich makabren Charaktäre aus Hellraiser, erdacht vom Meister Clive Barker. Und ein anderer Song von uns heißt „Pennywise“. Und natürlich ist da der tanzende Clown aus dem Stephen King Meisterwerk „ES“ gemeint.


Ich hatte großen Spaß, als ich mir euer Musikvideo zu „Animal“ angekuckt habe! Wer hatte die Idee?


Unsere erste Single „Animal“ wurde ein paar Mal auf finnischen Radiostationen gespielt. Dann bekamten wir einen Anruf vom bekannten Musikvideo-Artist Markus Nieminen, der ein Video zu „Animal“ machen wollte. Er hatte ein paar Ideen für das Video. Diese Vorstellungen von den dunklen verschissenen Untergrund-Biester aus der Hölle. Lebende Tote, große böse Heavy Metal Jungs die headbangen und stagediven auf einem Meer aus heißen verschwitzten Babes - so wie man es halt auf Youtube immer so sieht, wenn man sich Metal Videos ansieht. Aber eine Idee hatte er, die war so interessant und verlockend, dass wir dann einfach beschlossen, das zu machen: Die perfekte Geburtstagsparty mit all den lustigen und aufregenden Sachen, von denen wir immer geträumt haben, als wir fünf Jahre alt waren!
Aber ich verspreche dir, das nächste wird ein ganz brutales Metal-Video!

Wie würdest du den Sound deiner Band jemandem beschreiben, der euch noch nie gehört hat?


Grab schaufelnd mit Rosen, ein Massaker aus dem Himmel, ein dich in die Knie zwingendes Weihnachtsgeschenk und etwas Aufrichtendes für all jene, die niedergeschlagen sind und glauben, sie sind nichts. Wir rocken sozusagen alles!!!


Und woher holt ihr euch eure Inspiration?


Die Inspiration holen wir uns von all den Horrorszenarien, die ein Mensch einem anderen antun kann, das Leiden der Unschuldigen, Titten, die Schlinge, die man sich die Nacht zuvor selbst gezogen hat als man sich mit den Freunden gehen ließ, die Geburt des eigenen Kindes, Titten, einer sechzig Jahre alten Crackhure, die an der 116. Straße in East Harlem steht, der Bill Cosby Show und dann noch Titten.


Welche Bands würdet ihr als eure Einflüsse bezeichnen?


Es gibt so viele großartige Bands, dass es fast unmöglich ist, eine Liste von denen zu machen, die uns beeinflussen. Aber wir können es mit ein paar Wörtern beschreiben: von traditionellen finnischen Sängern / Bands bis zu Pop Musik zu Rock und brutalem Death Metal.


Habt ihr alle normale Jobs? Wie funktioniert das, wenn ihr auf Tour geht? Habt ihr eigentlich Pläne für eine Tour?


Tja, die Jobs kommen und gehen. Jetzt gerade haben drei von uns keinen Job und der Rest arbeitet um ihre Rechnungen zu bezahlen. Man muss halt einfach irgendetwas machen, damit das Bier am Tisch nicht ausgeht.
Wenn wir dann auf Tour gehen oder einen ganz normalen Gig haben, dann nehmen wir uns einfach die Zeit, denn auf der Bühne zu rocken ist das Wichtigste.
Ja, wir haben Pläne für eine Sommertour in Finland um unseren Teil zur Rockmusik beizutragen.




Ihr doch sicher auch schon einige lustige oder schockierende Geschichten auf den Konzerten oder so erlebt, die ihr uns erzählen wollt.


Unsere Gigs sind immer lustig und schockierend. Aber ja, einmal wars schon ziemlich lustig für uns und schockierend für die Zuschauer. Wir hatten da einen Gig und der Bassist und ich hatten keine Shirts an. Der Gig verlief super aber danach posteten ein paar Mädchen an unserer Facebook Seite, dass es entsetzlich war, dass sie unsere wabbelnden Bierbäuche sehen mussten. Darum habe ich mich beim nächsten Gig gleich komplett ausgezogen und niemand verlor nur ein Wort darüber.


Wo siehst du eure Band in zehn Jahren? Ich habe ja gelesen, dass ihr entweder auf Welttournee sein werdet oder in der Betty Ford Klinik. Was wird wohl eher passieren?


Das wird uns die Zeit zeigen. Vielleicht machen wir ja eine Welttournee und spielen den letzten Gig in der Betty Ford Klinik und checken danach gleich ein. Das scheint mir eigentlich ein guter Plan zu sein.

Es ist wirklich cool, dass euch unsere Musik gefällt und von den Metalheads in Österreich gespielt wird.

Can you introduce you and the band for the Austrian readers?


Ugh and howdy Austrian readers. My name is Junnu and I´m the singer from the band called The Cloudycators. We come from Tampere Finland. Other members of the band are: The guitar trasher and the park flasher Alarik. There´s also another guitar hero or weirdo the bald and the beautifulPaavo. The unbreakable wall of bass is the case that leads to the dirty fingers of Mika. And last the fast and filthy child from the slums behind the drums is Kimmo.


How came the decision to form this band? Did you know each other long before?


We have known each other for many years from several bands. One day Alarik phoned to me and told that he has a dozen songs he liked to do something with. So he collected the best players he thought that would be suitable for this band and the rest is history of rock´n roll. At least I hope it is.


What does your bandname “THE CLOUDYCATORS” mean? Where does it come from?


The name cloudycators is formed with words "claudication" and the beginning of the name is twisted to "cloudy".
Claudication comes from the Latin word claudicatio meaning "limping" and in Finland it´s brain disorder caused by years of heavy boozing. You can see claudicators every day in the streets here. So you don´t need to be a fortuneteller to see how the cloudycators will act about twenty years from now.
The "cloudy" in the beginning just represents the band. You newer know how the things turns after the cloudy steady weather. It can turn to flesh tearing thunder of hell or sweaty sweet lovers paradise.


Your record “Land Of The Cloudycators” was released in February 2014, how was the process of writing the songs and recording? Was it an easy job for you?


It was pretty easy yes. The band was and is quite new so it was just like fresh mindflow thing. Alarik had composed most of the songs at home and he played his ideas to the band. It suddenly klicked. We spent long days practising the songs and just having a blast. I made the lyrics to the songs and we ran to studio and puff. We were ready to raise the hell.


What can you tell me about the lyrics? What are they about?


Well I have allways been some kind a horror freak. From the day I learned how to read I have devoured all the weird books and films and stuff. You know H.P.Lovecraft, Clive Barker, Stephen King, Robert Bloch, Edgar Allan Poe an shit. Old finish poets and singers also had given a huge touch to my way to think and write lyrics. For example we have a song called "cenobite". Cenobites are the brilliant and macabre caracters from hellraiser made by the master Clive Barker. Then we have another song called "pennywise". Offcourse the pennywise is the dancing clown from Stephen King´s masterpiece It. "they all float down here".


I had a lot of fun watching your music video “Animal”! Who had the idea?


Our first sigle "Animal" was played few times in finish radiostations. We had phonecall from well known music video artist Markus Nieminen and he wanted to make video from animal. He gave few ideas for the video. There were those dark fucking undergrownd beasts from hell ideas. Living death, big bad heavymetal guys headbanging and stagediving to the sea of hot wet babes as you see every time you go to youtube and watch metal videos. But there was one idea that was so interesting and tempting that we desided to do that. Perfect birthday party with all the funny and tickling things we all have dreamed of when we were five years old.
Next video will be brutal metal video we promise!


How would you describe the sound of your band for someone who cannot hear?


Grave digging with roses, massacre from heaven, ball breaking christmas gift, uplifter to all those who feel depressed and think they are nothing. We all fucking rock together man!!!


Where do you get your inspiration from?


The inspiration comes from the horrors that man can do to other man, the suffering of the innocent, titties, the noose that you greased last night, getting wasted with your friends, seeing the birth of your baby, titties, sixty years old crackwhore standing at 116th street in east harlem, Bill Cosby show and back to titties.


Which bands would you call your influences?


There is so many great bands that it´s imbossible to list all of those who had influenced us. It can be sayd in few words. From finish traditional singers/bands to pop music to rock to brutal death metal.


Do you all have normal jobs? How does it work when you go on tour? And do you have plans for touring?


Well the jobs comes and goes. At this time three of us is out of job and the rest are doing something to pay their taxes. You just have to do something to keep the beer in the table.
When we have a tour or normal gig we just make the time we need cause the rockin´ on stage is the main thing.
Yes we have plans to go on summer tour in finland to give our effort to rock music.


You are a young and “enthusiastic” band, for sure there are funny or shocking stories from your concerts or something you want to tell me. ;)


Our gigs are allways funny and shocking.well there´s this one time that is quite funny to us and shoking to viewers. We were in one gig and the basist and I had no shirts on. The gig went fine, but afterwards some girls wrote to our facebook site that it was horrified to watch tose wobbling beer bellies. So I took all my clothes of at next gig. Nobody had nothing to say about that gig.


Where do you see your band in 10 years? I read you want to do a world tour or check into Betty Ford Clinic? What do you think what will happen first? ;)


The time will tell that one. Maybe we will do the world tour and do the last gig at the clinic and check in. That seems like a good plan.
