TARJA TURUNEN wurde bei ihrer letzten Europa-Tour von einer Italienischen Symphonic Metal Band namens TEODASIA begleitet.
Diese Band war bis dahin außerhalb Italiens weitestgehend unbekannt, konnte aber durch ihre mitreißenden Auftritte bei der Tour sehr viele Fans gewinnen.
Nun hat sich die Sängerin Giulia von TEODASIA bereit erklärt, uns einige Fragen zu ihrer Musik, ihren Plänen und vielen anderen Dingen zu beantworten:


Hallo, kannst du bitte dich und TEODASIA kurze vorstellen?


Hallo zusammen, mein Name ist Giulia und ich bin die neue Sängerin von TEODASIA, einer italienischen, symphonischen Rock / Metal Band! TEODASIA wurden im Jahr 2006 basierend auf den musikalischen Ideen von Komponist und Schlagzeuger Francesco Gozzo geründet und ihr erstes Full-Length-Release "Upwards" hatten sie im Jahr 2012, und wir danken dem Komponist und Produzent der Band Andrea Bezzon dafür. Die anderen Mitglieder der Band sind: Fabio Compagno an der Gitarre, Nicola Falsone an der Bassgitarre und Michele Munari an den Keyboards. Ich trat die Band im Sommer 2013 ein, kurz vor der Veröffentlichung von TEODASIAs neuer EP "Reflections", die uns Herbst 2013 die große Chance einbrachte, die Vorgruppe von Tarja Turunen in ihrer " Colours On The Road " European Tour zu sein! Was für ein wunderbarer Weg für mich, um zu starten, nicht wahr?




Woher kommt ihr genau? Ich habe Venedig gelesen, aber lebt ihr in dieser wunderbaren Stadt oder in der Region von Venedig?


Wir leben in der Region von Venedig, ganz in der Nähe zueinander! Vielmehr kann ich mehr sagen: Drei von uns leben zusammen in einer Stadt in der Nähe von Padua! Eine ein bisschen weiter weg, denn ich wohne in der Nähe von Treviso, das ist eine schöne Stadt in der entgegengesetzten Richtung von Padua! Wie auch immer, es ist nur eine halbe Stunde mit dem Auto für mich um zu den Jungs kommen!


Habt ihr jemals außerhalb von Italien gespielt?


Nein, haben wir nicht! Das war das erste Mal für uns im Ausland zu spielen.


Wie wurdet ihr für die TARJA-Tour entdeckt?


Wir schrieben einfach an das Tour-Management und haben uns als Vorband vorgeschlagen! Natürlich haben sie unsere Musik und Verweise dazu überprüft, bevor sie uns nach einigen Tagen mit den Worten "Willkommen an Bord" geantwortet haben!


Wie war es für euch, vor so einem großen Publikum aufzutreten?


Auf jeden Fall spannend! Wir waren überhaupt nicht darauf eingestellt, vor so vielen Leuten zu spielen, auch wenn wir schon so lange Zeit davon geträumt hatten, wie das jeder Musiker tut, denke ich. Was mich betrifft, ich muss gestehen, ich war auch ein bisschen nervös am Anfang! Aber sobald ich auf der Bühne war, und alle positive Energie, Liebe und Unterstützung durch das Publikum empfing, verschwanden sofort meine Ängste und haben der intensivsten Freude und den schönsten Emotionen meines Lebens Platz gemacht!


Wie war die Beziehung zu TARJA und ihrer Band während der Tour?


Nun, ich kann sagen, es war in der Tat sehr positiv! Wir haben uns immer respektvoll und bescheiden verhalten, und es war großartig und eine Quelle des Stolzes für uns zu sehen, dass wir uns auch ihre Wertschätzung so nach und nach verdient haben. TARJA ist unglaublich und hat so viel Talent und Klasse, und Mike Terrana ist der lustigste Mann, den wir je getroffen habe! Wir wurden immer mit Freundlichkeit und extrem zugänglich behandelt, als wären wir gleichwertig ... wir hatten auch manchmal die Zeit, um zusammen zu reden und zu scherzen und wir waren alle so traurig, als wir Abschied nehmen mussten ... Ich hoffe wirklich, alle eines Tages wiederzusehen.


In Wien habt ihr sehr viel Applaus für eure Show bekommen! War das bei euren anderen Auftritten während der Tour auch der Fall?


Ja, auch da war es so!


Habt ihr irgendwelche Verbindungen zu Österreich? Wart ihr schon einmal hier?


Nein, wir waren noch nie dort gewesen, und wir können es nicht erwarten, so schnell wie möglich wieder hinzukommen! Ich vor einigen Jahren in Österreich auf Urlaub mit meinen Eltern und ich habe mich damals in Wien und Innsbruck verliebt!


Was kannst du mir über euer neues Album “Reflections” erzählen?


"Reflections" wurde deshalb gemacht, weil die Jungs das Bedürfnis verspürt haben, einige Tracks aus ihrem ersten Demo "Crossing The Light", aus dem Jahr 2009 neu zu überarbeiten und zu arrangieren mit ihrer neuen Erfahrung und Sensibilität, die sie in der Zwischenzeit dazugewonnen haben. "Reflections" enthält auch einige Titel vom "Upwards"-Album, die nicht in der vollen Länge enthalten waren, zusammen mit dem neu arrangierten Covers eines berühmten Hits der 90er Jahre, "Stay".




Wie entstand die Idee für den Titel und das Artwork?


TEODASIA hat diesen Titel gewählt, weil "Reflections" als ein Sammelsurium von Gedanken und Reflexionen über die menschliche innere Natur mit all ihren Ängsten, Zweifeln betrachtet werden kann, aber auch über Kraft und Hoffnung. Manchmal sind die Menschen aufgerufen, in sich selbst zu blicken und in ihr Gesicht, um zu sehen wer sie wirklich sind, um ihre Grenzen zu überwinden und den Mut zu finden, sich selbst und ihre Träume zu verwirklichen. Deshalb haben wir uns auch eine Art Spiegelbild der für das Artwork überlegt, um die Idee von einem Spiegel, der unsere Gedanken und wahre Wesen spiegelt, umzusetzen.


Wie würdet ihr euren Sound beschreiben?


Nun, wir könnten sagen, dass der TEODASIA Sound etwas Besonderes ist, dass er vielleicht ein bisschen anders ist als bei anderen aus dem Genre. Du weißt, dass die Wurzeln des symphonischen Rock / Metal-Genre in Nordeuropa sind, wo der Sound von ziemlich kalter und düsterer Atmosphäre gekennzeichnet ist. Unser Sound hingegen ist wärmer, leichter und heller, vielleicht auch, weil wir von der Exotisch / Mediterranen Kultur, der wir angehören, beeinflusst werden.


Welches sind eure Einflüsse?


NIGHTWISH muss natürlich als unsere Basis berücksichtigt werden! Jedenfalls muss ich sagen, dass wir alle verschiedene Arten von Musik hören und verschiedene musikalische Hintergründe haben. Michele und Francesco haben immer gern Bands wie NIGHTWISH, SONATA ARCTICA, EPICA und so weiter gehört, während Fabio und Nicola eher eine klassischen Thrash und Heavy Hintergrund haben. Was mich betrifft, kann ich sagen, dass ich genau in der Mitte bin, und ich bin auch zutiefst fasziniert von malefronted-Metal-Bands wie zum Beispiel KAMELOT, SYMPHONY X, PAIN OF SALVATION und so weiter. Jedenfalls hören wir auch andere Art von Musik, von Jazz bis flippig, von Pop bis Folk, von Industrial bis zur keltischen Musik ... vielleicht ist auch diese Mischung aus verschiedenen Einflüssen die Stärke von TEODASIA.


Was sind eure Pläne für 2014?


Im März 2014 haben wir vor, erneut ins Studio gehen, um unseren neues Album aufzunehmen. Wir arbeiten bereits hart an der Vorproduktion! Natürlich möchten wir auch wieder auf Tour gehen und sehr bald so viele tolle Gigs wie möglich zu spielen! Es wird ein herausforderndes Jahr für uns und wir haben viele Überraschungen geplant!


Was kannst du mir über die italienische Metal Szene erzählen?


Es gibt viele sehr talentierte Metal Bands hier in Italien, vor allem im Norden. Tatsache ist, dass leider keine Metal Szene vorhanden ist, um ihnen die Möglichkeit zu geben, sich dauerhaft zu etablieren ... Italien ist kein und wird nie ein Metal Land sein, weil unsere musikalischen Wurzeln und Vorlieben anderen Arten von Musik gehören. Daher ist es sehr schwer, hier eine Chance zu haben.


Gibt es andere Bands aus deiner Region, die du empfehlen könntest?


Natürlich! Ich würde folgende Bands empfehlen: SHINE IN ASH, THE MOOR, ASHENT, SINPHOBIA und ARMONIGHT!

TARJA TURUNEN was accompanied by an Italian symphonic metal band called TEODASIA on her last European tour. This band was largely unknown until then outside of Italy, but they were able to win many fans by their rousing performances at the Tour. Now the singer Giulia TEODASIA has agreed to answer a few questions about their music, their plans, and many other things:


Hi, can you please make a short introduction of yourself and TEODASIA.


Hello everybody, my name is Giulia and I am the new lead singer of TEODASIA, a symphonic Italian rock/metal band! Teodasia were born in 2006 by the musical ideas of composer and drummer Francesco Gozzo and they released their first full-lenght “Upwards” in 2012, thanks also to the composer and executive producer of the band Andrea Bezzon’s contribute. The other members of the bands are: Fabio Compagno at the guitars, Nicola Falsone at the bass guitar and Michele Munari at the keyboards. I joined the band in Summer 2013, just before the release of Teodasia’s new EP “Reflections” which took place in the Autumn 2013 and the great opportunity to be the supporting act of Tarja Turunen in her “Colours in the Road” European Tour! What a marvellous way to start for me, isn’t it??


Where do you come from exactly? I read Venice, but do you live in this wonderful city, or in the region of Venice?


We live in the region of Venice, quite close to each other actually! Rather, I can say more: three of us live together in a town near to the city of Padova! The one a little bit far more, maybe, it’s me, ‘cause I live near Treviso, which is a beautiful city in the opposite direction from Padova! Anyway, just half an hour by car for me to join the guys!


Have you ever played concerts outside Italy before?


No, we had not! This one was our first time abroad!


How were you discovered for the TARJA-Tour?


We simply wrote to the Tour management proposing us as supporting act! Of course they evaluated our Music and references too, before answering us “welcome on board” after some days!


How was it for you, to play gigs for such a big audience?


Definitely thrilling!!! We were not used at all to play in front of so many people even if we have been dreaming about it for so long time, as every Musician does, I think. As regards me, I must confess I was also a little bit nervous at the beginning! However, as soon as I was on stage feeling all that positive energy, love and support shown by the audience, my fears immediately disappeared and left place to the most intense happiness and emotions of my life!


How was the relationship to TARJA and her band during the tour?


Well, I can say it was very positive indeed!! We always behaved with respect and humility and it was great and a source of pride for us to see that we earned also their esteem little by little. Tarja is incredible and has got such a talent and class, while Mike Terrana is the funniest man we have ever met!! We were always treated with kindness and extreme availability, as nothing more than equals... we also had the time to talk and joke together sometimes and we were all so sad when we had to say goodbye...I really hope to be able to meet them all someday.


In Vienna you got lots of applause for your show. Was there the same reaction on the other places of the tour?


Well, yes it definitely was!


Do you have any reference to Austria? Have you ever been there before?


No we had never been there before and we can’t wait to come back as soon as possible indeed! I came to Austria on holidays with my parents several years ago and I really felt in love with Vienna and Innsbruck!


What can you tell me about your new album “Reflections”?


“Reflections” saw the light because the guys felt the need to rework and rearrange with their new experience and sensitivity some tracks belonging to their first demo “Crossing the Light”, recorded in 2009. “Reflections” also includes some tracks belonging to the “Upwards” session and which were not included in the full-lenght, together with the rearranged cover of a famous hit of the 90ties, “Stay”.


What was the idea of the title and the artwork?


TEODASIA chose this title because “Reflections” can be considered as a compendium of thoughts and reflections about human inner nature with all its fears, doubts but also strength and hopes. Sometimes human beings are called to look inside them and to face who they really are in order to overcome their limits and to find the courage to realize themselves and their dreams. That’s why we also chose a sort of specular image for the artwork in order to give the idea of a mirror that reflects our thoughts and real essence.


How would you describe your sound?


Well, we can say that Teodasia’s sound has got something peculiar that perhaps makes it a little bit different from the genre of reference. You know, the roots of the symphonic rock/metal genre are in Northern Europe where the sound is characterized by some quite cold and gloomy atmospheres. Our sound, instead, is warmer, lighter and brighter, maybe also because we are influenced by the Exotic/Mediterranean culture we belong to.


What are your influences?


NIGHTWISH of course can be considered as our baseline! Anyway I must say that we all listen to different kinds of Music and have various musical backgrounds of preference. Michele and Francesco have always been fond of bands like Nightwish, Sonata Artica, Epica and so on, while Fabio and Nicola belong to a more classical thrash and heavy background. As regards me, I can say I am exactly in the middle and that I’m deeply fascinated also by malefronted metal bands like for example Kamelot, Symphony X, Pain of Salvation and so on. Anyway we also listen to different kind of Music, from jazz to funky, from pop to folk, from industrial to celtic Music... maybe also this sort of mix of influences is Teodasia’s strength


What are your plans for 2014?


In March 2014 we will enter the studios again to record our new full-lenght. We are already working hard on the preproduction! Of course we would like to go on tour again very soon and to play as many great gigs as possible! It will be a challenging year for us and lots of surprises are in our plans!!


What can you tell us about the Italian metal scene?


There are lots of very talented metal bands here in Italy, especially in the North. The fact is that sadly does not exist a metal scene able enough to give them the opportunity to emerge... Italy is not and never will be a metal country, ‘cause our musical roots and preferences belong to other kinds of Music. Therefore, it’s very hard to have a chance here.


Are there bands from your region you would recommend?


Of course!! I would recommend: Shine in Ash, The Moor, Ashent, Sinphobia, Armonight.
